Laser Tag League

Laser Sporting is surprisingly athletic and a huge amount of fun. The main difference between League and regular Laser Tag, is that you get to experience Laser Tag as part of an organised 5 person team. Your team will develop good communication and technical skills throughout the 10 week season to become a cohesive unit come finals time. Compete for trophies, medals and awards. Do well enough in the local competitions and you may be asked to compete in a team representing South Australia, with national competitions being held once a year around the country, and even opportunities to compete on the world stage, with teams from Megazone being selected to perform in the world championships in Malaysia 2021.

Laser Sporting is an upcoming “esport”, including large amounts of communication and teamwork, you’ll find it’s one of the funnest sports around. It doesn’t even feel like you’re working out but you gain a huge amount of fitness!

Megazone League is welcoming to new players and caters for all skill levels, we offer one-on-one training sessions before the games start to teach new players all the tricks of the trade.
Get training from some of Australia’s best laser tag players and make life long friends! One season and you could be giving the pros a run for their money!

Our league in Noarlunga features many friendly, experienced national and International players to administer the league and guide new players with any questions and teach them all the tricks of the trade.

What are the rules
and game settings?

One of the things that makes Laser Tag different, is that its the only sport that has 3 teams in each game; Red, Blue & Green. Each team has 5 players and a “Home Base” Area. Each player can destroy the enemy Base Station once each. So this means each team can destroy up to 10 bases per game.

You will pick up 3001 points for a base and 150 points for a tag on another player. A team's score is predominantly made up of points from tags and points from base destroys.

Your Team Captain is your coordinator inside the game. In a typical game strategy, most teams will have some players (usually 2 or 3) protecting their home base and the remaining attacking the enemy bases. As players destroy enemy team bases they will need to return home to swap with a defending player who still needs the base. All this coordination and swapping of players will be handled by your Team Captain. A crucial part of laser tag is having people in the right places. Trust your captains judgement in game, and discuss things you noticed afterwards. Sometimes following the action leaves your Home Base vulnerable!

The biggest difference between a public session and league night is the format we use while you’re playing in the arena. We run a format aligned with the ZLTAC or “Laser tag Nationals”, a yearly competition including the 33 best Laser Tag teams in AUS and NZ. League is the first way to get involved in going to Nationals representing one of Adelaide’s 3 assigned team slots. The first big change is “reloading”. This happens when you run out of either lives, or power (shots). To reload you must leave your position and walk under the marked reload area for your pack to start working again. After you reload you may have an extended Deactivation time. Reloading makes team work essential in both attacking and defending a base.

Another big difference between public games and League games is base evacuation. Around each base is a set of fluro lines on the floor that indicate the perimeter of a base evacuation area. You need to be active (lights on) to be in this area. This creates an area around the base stations that defending and attacking players battle over in order to protect or destroy the base. If you are in an evacuation area and you get tagged, you must leave the area before reactivating.

When a team becomes more advanced they gain cohesion, their captain may gain insight and knowledge into the game that allows them to try some other strategies. No 2 games of League are ever the same, you never know what the other team could try to get into your base and take it out!

Player settings.

The game format used in League is different from standard games. It includes the following settings.

/ 8 second Deactivation
/ 2 shots per second
/ 7 lives
/ 45 shots

How does league work?

Each week teams play 3 games. You will play from red, blue, and green once, each night. Teams accumulate competition points for their victories. A team receives 6 points for 1st, 4 points for 2nd and 2 points for 3rd. If a team is tied on competition points, their team average score determines their ladder placing, we then post all the nights rankings on our Megazone League page for you to show all your friends!

In week 10 the top 3 teams play off and battle it out to try and claim the top prize. After the Grand Final we announce the results, congratulate the winners and present the trophies during the next season.

League FAQs

Can we join as a team of 5 friends?

Of course! We always try and keep friends together on teams. Although sometimes putting 5 new players on a team can be hard for them to learn the rules and understand the game. We have had a team do it before! You just need to ask on registration day and we can talk you through the pro’s and con’s and you can come to a final decision there!

You didn’t mention the Targets in the Arena, are they used?

No. In league the targets are off. The only way to gain points is through shooting players and the base stations.

I can’t attend every week but I’d like to check it out!

Unfortunately due to the nature of League being a team sport, teams are set in week one and there usually isn’t room for new players. Come to one of our Lock-ins and you might be able to jump into a league format game if there are some players there!
If you’re an experienced Competitive Format player looking to sub, message the Facebook page and we will let you know if there’s some availability
